Bishwa Shah immigrated to the United States from Nepal in 2002, after fifteen years of service in the Nepali Army. He came here with his wife in pursuit of the American dream, and the two of them built their life from the ground up — first in New York City for eighteen years, and now in New Hampshire, which they proudly call home.
As first-generation immigrants without a network in this country, Bishwa and his family worked incredibly hard. He has been a taxicab driver, an insurance agent, and a real estate agent. For ten years leading up to the pandemic, he and his wife owned and operated a Subway sandwich shop — learning firsthand about business management, problem-solving, and the finances that keep a small business alive.
“Running a small business is difficult in a big city — high rent, no parking, endless red tape. I understand the challenges small business owners face, and I want to advocate on their behalf.”
Bishwa's commitment to community runs deeper than his own household. From 2005 to 2009, he published and ran Nepali Khabar (Nepali News), a newspaper that gave the Nepali diaspora in New York a platform and a voice. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2013.
Today, Bishwa works as a home care provider for two paraplegic individuals — work he's done since moving to New Hampshire in 2020. It's demanding, and it's deeply rewarding: he shows up for people who need him, and along the way he has learned our state's healthcare system inside and out. He and his wife raised two children: a daughter pursuing optometry, and a son studying engineering.
Bishwa previously stepped up as a candidate for Hillsborough County District 41, which covers Manchester wards 2, 4, 5, and 7. He's ready to work hard and represent the people of Manchester.
